Getting started with the UC Client
The Askozia UC Client is a communication application for AskoziaPBX. It is available starting from Askozia firmware version 5.2 or higher. The configuration of the UC Client happens almost entirely through the web interface of AskoziaPBX. The basic configuration needs to be done via Askozia’s web interface (Admin Login). Smaller configuration changes can be done by the user via Askozia’s client user interface (User Login). After the configuration is done, the user simply downloads the pre-configured UC Client from the PBX.
The UC Client is available for Mac OS X 10.12 Sierra.
Activation and configuration
The basic configuration is similar to any other auto-configured SIP phone. Therefore, we are only going to cover the parts of the configuration here, which are unique for the UC Client. For the configuration of standard IP phone features, such as voice mail, caller IDs, etc., please check the SIP phones chapter.
To create a new user account, go to device accounts and add a new VoIP/SIP phone by clicking on
In the general settings, add an internal number, caller ID and the preferred language for voice prompts.
The language setting does not affect the user interface language of the UC Client. The UC Client interface language is set automatically according to the language of your operating system (if available). Otherwise, it is set to English. Currently supported languages are:
In the security settings, we recommend to use the account password automatically generated by AskoziaPBX. If you decide to change it, we highly recommend to use a strong and secure password that is at least 8 characters long and includes letters, digits and special characters.
In the model drop-down menu of the auto-configuration settings, select the UC Client for your operating system.
The speed dial buttons that are configured below, are going to be the contacts on the buddy list of the UC Client linked to this account.
Configure the other options for this account as far as required according to the SIP phones chapter. Click save to finish the configuration.
On the devices overview page, a new contact and a download button next to it will appear. A click on download, will download a ZIP archive containing the UC Client application and configuration file that was created for this account in the previous step.
Mac OS X installation
Download the UC Client via the admin web interface or via the client user interface. Locate the .ZIP file on your Mac. The default folder is Downloads.
Extract the folder with a double-click to receive both the UC Client application and configuration file.
Now, double-click on the UC Client application. When starting the application for the first time, you will be asked if you want to execute an application downloaded from the internet. Confirm with "yes". If the configuration file could not automatically be found in the same folder as the UC Client application, you will be asked to manually select a configuration file. This only happens the first time you run the application.
Select the config-uc-client.xml from the UC Client folder you have just downloaded and click on "open".
Close the UC Client application and move it to the Applications folder on your Mac.
Start the UC Client again. Hit the 'ctrl' key and click on the UC Client application in the dock. Select "keep in dock for easy access".
The UC Client is now ready to be used. To learn more about its features, continue with chapter UC Client features.
