Why is it called firmware?

AskoziaPBX is a complete firmware image. It consists of the entire vertical stack needed to implement a telephone system from Linux kernel, utilities and libraries to Asterisk and its modules to a tightly coupled webgui on top. The software packages utilized are tested for stability and security and, once everything is operating in harmony, a release is made with this locked-in set of packages. Also, since the underlying system is so well understood by the webgui, many things can be automatically detected and configured. Fresh installations have working telephony ports and can be immediately used.
